BOTOX for Jawline Contouring

By placing BOTOX injections into the jaw’s masseter muscles used for chewing and clenching, our experienced aesthetic injectors can provide non-surgical facial and jawline slimming. This treatment, also called masseter reduction, relaxes overdeveloped muscles that make the jaw look wide and square for a slimming effect. It can also relieve symptoms of TMJ, such as jaw pain and headaches.

Combining Procedures

Our Portland Plastic Surgery Group plastic surgeons supervise all the injectors at MD Beauty Lab. In some cases, our surgeons may recommend that BOTOX injections be combined with surgical procedures, such as facelifts and eyelid surgery.

Combining Dermal Fillers With BOTOX

Fine lines and wrinkles that develop around the eyes and forehead are typically not the only signs of aging that concern. The loss of facial volume in the cheeks and around the mouth, along with thinning lips, may appear more pronounced after getting BOTOX injections. That’s why we often recommend combining wrinkle relaxers like BOTOX with dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®.

When you come in for a consultation, we closely examine your entire face, and together, create a custom treatment plan that involves BOTOX or dermal fillers; and even other non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments, such as Sylfirm X RF Microneedling. The results of filler treatments last longer than BOTOX injections, ranging between nine months and two years (depending on the type of filler used.) The illustration shows concerns addressed with each type of treatment.

Procedure & Recovery

With the use of a very fine needle, BOTOX is injected into the underlying facial muscles to inhibit the muscle contractions that cause unwanted lines and wrinkles. BOTOX causes these muscles to relax, leading to skin that appears smoother and tighter. The procedure is fast and requires minimal downtime. In fact, many patients are able to receive treatment on their lunch hour and can return to work immediately.

Common Questions

When Will I See Results?

The effects of a BOTOX or Dysport treatment may be seen as soon as a few days after treatment, making it fast and effective. Results from Dysport, another common neuromodulator, tend to appear sooner, within two to three days.

How Long Does BOTOX Last?

BOTOX and other neuromodulators temporarily reduce wrinkles and lines with results lasting about 3 to 4 months. Because BOTOX and Dysport are not permanent, maintenance treatments are recommended for optimal facial rejuvenation.

What’s the Best Age to Start Getting BOTOX or Dysport?

Neuromodulators can benefit adults of all ages. People in their late 20s to 30s choose these treatments to prevent dynamic wrinkles from forming. Many people in their 40s and older start BOTOX injections when they notice crow’s feet and other dynamic wrinkles and want to look naturally rejuvenated.

Is BOTOX Better than Dermal Fillers?

While both are injectable facial rejuvenation treatments, BOTOX and dermal fillers work in different ways and provide different benefits. Our BOTOX in Portland removes wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles that create them. It takes a few days to take effect. Fillers provide instant results and rejuvenate the face by adding volume to smooth out folds and wrinkles, fill in hollows around the eyes, augment the cheeks, and more. The best choice may be one or the other, but is often both.

Is BOTOX Safe?

Since its FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002, BOTOX has had a longstanding safety record when a trained and experienced provider administers it to a carefully screened patient.

Is There Anything I Should Avoid Before or After Treatment?

While no actual downtime is needed, we recommend the following precautions after treatment for best results:

  • Avoid putting pressure on or rubbing injection sites for an hour or two.
  • Keep your head upright for the first few hours.
  • Hold off on strenuous exercise, drinking alcohol, and taking ibuprofen until the following day.

Will My Results Look Natural?

When performed by one of our highly trained and experienced injectors, neuromodulator treatments help our patients look relaxed, refreshed, and very natural.

Does BOTOX Really Help Prevent New Wrinkles from Forming?

Because it temporarily immobilizes the tiny wrinkle-causing muscles of the face, BOTOX is an effective anti-aging option that delays the development of dynamic wrinkles with a consistent treatment schedule.
